The story is getting bigger.
The Associated Press reported from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Sept. 17 (KST) that local prosecutors have opened an investigation into Tampa Bay Rays infielder Wander Franco for allegedly associating with a minor.
According to the report, the Peravia state prosecutor’s office’s unit for minors and sex offenses has opened an investigation into Franco.
Prosecutor Angel Dario Tejada Faval of the Peravia State Prosecutor’s Office told the AP that the case has been assigned to the “Specialized Investigation Team for Minors and Sexual Offenses.
He said the investigation into Franco was still in the early stages, including gathering evidence, and that it was a “very sensitive case because it involves minors,” and would be conducted in consultation with a judge.
“Next week we will be able to release information without compromising the investigation,” he added.
Over the weekend, social media circulated allegations that Franco was dating a minor.
Major League Baseball jumped into action, placing him on the restricted list and opening an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, prosecutors in Franco’s home country, the Dominican Republic, have also opened an investigation.
Prosecutors have not yet had any contact with Major League Baseball or the U.S. government regarding the case, according to a spokesperson. 스포츠토토
