A new partnership with Son Heung-min?
Destiny Udoji is a left full-back reserve who first donned a Tottenham Hotspur shirt in August 2022, but spent time on loan at Udinese Calcio.
Udoji returned to Tottenham after his loan spell with Udinese and joined the club on a pre-season tour ahead of the upcoming season.
Udoji’s solid performances on the left flank have led to expectations of synergy with Son Heung-min.
“He’s definitely a good player,” Udoji said. I’m looking forward to playing with him and helping him score goals.”
Heung-min and Udoji teamed up on the left in a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk on June 6.
Son and Udoji were active, efficient, and focused on creating chances. They focused on optimal positioning, avoiding overlapping positions.
“That’s what coach Enze Postecoglou asked me to do,” Udoji said after the game. If Son Heung-min is inside, I’m outside. And vice versa, if he’s on the outside, I have to be on the inside,” he said.

Perisic played as a left wing-back and was criticized for his overlapping runs and poor passing timing.
There have been numerous examples of Son’s performance improving without Perisic.
Perisic’s effectiveness was minimal due to his dissonance with Son and poor performance. His crossing success rate was also poor.
