Seol Ki-hyun’s Gyeongnam ‘jumps to second place’ with 2-0 win over Seoul Eland… reignites fight for top spot

Gyeongnam FC returned to the top of the table with a win over Seoul Eland FC. They can now accelerate their fight for the top spot.

The Hana OneQ K League 2 2023 Round 25 match between Seoul Eland FC and Gyeongnam FC kicked off at 7 p.m. on June 6 at Mokdong Sports Complex in Seoul. The result was 2-0 in favor of the visiting club. Gyeongnam defeated Seoul Eland with back-to-back goals from Won Ki-jong in the 21st minute and Seol Hyun-jin in the 26th minute.

Speaking to the media before the game, Gyeongnam head coach Seol Ki-hyun had a clear explanation for his team’s recent slump. He said that opposing clubs have been playing man-to-man defense to control Gyeongnam’s offensive prowess, causing his players to panic. In the game, however, Gyeongnam gradually took control of the atmosphere. In the beginning, Seoul Eland seemed to have the upper hand, but Gyeongnam took control.

The first goal came from Won Ki-jong in the 21st minute of the second half. Won Ki-jong sprinted into the Seoul Eland territory after a header from Park Min-seo and split the goal with a precise finish.

In the 26th minute, Seol Hyun-jin scored a mid-range shot that was reminiscent of Seol’s playing days. With a powerful right-footed shot, Seol created a trajectory that Seoul Eland goalkeeper Yoon Bo-sang couldn’t stop. Gyeongnam virtually took the game. 꽁머니지급
